No one needs to be convinced of the advantages of greenery in interiors. Well-chosen accents in the form of herbs, flowers, stately palms or variously shaped succulents can create an interesting design effect, enliven the interior, give it a final touch. Importantly, the color green  has a beneficial effect on our health and well-being – in interiors where there is a lot of green, we feel better. There are places where it is difficult to set aside space for plants. In such a situation a great idea is… a vertical garden.

Vertical gardens, also known as green walls, are the brainchild of French traveler and botanist Patrick Blank. In short, the idea is to take the greenery out of the horizontal space and literally put it upright. Originally, the idea was only to grow live plants on walls, using special vertical structures with built-in irrigation systems.

Green walls have proven to be a hit and have established themselves in interiors around the world. Thanks to the latest developments, it is possible to adapt almost any vertical surface – both indoors and outdoors – so that a hanging garden can be created on it. It is also possible to construct a mobile wall of plants, which will act as a divider, a screen, separating zones in room. Insufficient light is not a problem, because the frame on which the plants are hung can be equipped with additional lighting.

What plants are suitable for a vertical garden? The choice is really wide. Much depends on whether the wall will be outside (in which case weather conditions may be a limitation) or inside. They include tropical plants, traditional potted plants, seasonal plants, and also herbs. Flowering flowers, as well as hanging flowers and climbing plants will be excellent on the green wall. The ones that will adapt best are the good ones, which do not protrude too much beyond the perimeter of the pot. Constructing vertical gardens combines, among other things. Such plants as horsetail, anthurium, herbaceous plant, arrowroot, philodendron, scion. The original solution is to use mosses, lichens and ferns.

Green walls create a positive atmosphere and give great visual effects as an unconventional decoration. They are an interesting solution in apartments, offices and public spaces. These created from mosses, lichens and ferns  do not require care. Maintaining  green wall is not difficult, it does not need attention. An alternative for those who do not have a hand in flowers or a passion for gardening is to use artificial plants. These top-quality ones do not differ in appearance from live specimens, and the green wall created from them can be a modern decoration of any interior
